Who has the best donuts in Fresno or Clovis?
We asked. You answered.
The results of last week’s poll asking Fresno Bee readers that question are in.
The winners:
1. Dream Donuts, northwest corner of Willow and Gettysburg avenues in Clovis.
2. Sprinkles Donuts, northwest corner of Maple and Behymer avenues in Fresno.
3. Judy’s Donuts, which has multiple locations in Fresno and Clovis.
All top three winners were write-ins. Not that far behind in fourth place was Liv’s Donuts, with locations in Fresno and Clovis.
Now, these polls aren’t scientific, since readers can vote more than once.
They’re more for fun, and if you keep reading about a viral tweet about a certain kind of bachelorette party themed donut, you’ll learn why Dream Donuts has a big social media following.
Dream Donuts
Dream Donuts has been at its spot since 1997, started by the current owner’s uncle. It’s got bright pink walls with a mural of dancing donuts ideal for Instagram photos.
The maple bar and chocolate bar are probably the most popular, said Tum Ouk, who owns the shop with his wife.
Dream Donuts is known for its custom designed donuts. With a day’s notice, you can pre-order donuts with little mermaid tails, or donuts in the shape of ladybugs, unicorns, Thanksgiving turkeys and more.
They also have bachelor party and bachelorette party-themed donuts.
The bachelor party ones are in the shape of bikinis.
The bachelorette party ones? We’re too much of a family newspaper to get into specifics, but the donut is called the rocket and resembles a certain body part.
We mention this because a tweet featuring the donut went viral last December, getting more than 43,000 likes and more than 5,000 retweets. Ouk even went on a radio show to talk about it.
That donut and tweet is why the store has thousands of followers on social media. It shared the poll with all those followers.
“I think that’s the reason we won the contest,” he said.
Still, “that’s pretty cool,” he said.
