Fresno is getting a second Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop, with another two locations also in the works for the area.

The sandwich shop is planning to open at 7685 N. Blackstone Ave., in the space once occupied by Togo’s and Baskin-Robbins, near Red Robin.

It could be a while before it opens, however. The restaurant just signed a lease and is still in the permitting stage.

If all goes as planned, Capriotti’s could open early next year, said Javier Gomez, the franchisee, who also owned several Rally’s restaurants in the area.

It will be the second location in the area, with the first opening in Fig Garden Village in April.

More Capriotti’s in Fresno, Clovis?

Gomez said he is currently in negotiations for two more locations in the Fresno area.

“Our Palm location is doing very good and we’re getting a lot of requests to go into the Fresno (and Clovis) area,” he said.

What is Capriotti’s?

The sandwich shop has a following in Fresno, even though it’s brand new to the area.

The company is based in Las Vegas, though got its start in Delaware.

“We hear when people go to Vegas, they will buy one or two sandwiches and bring it home and eat it a couple days later,” Gomez said.

With 134 locations nationwide, Capriotti’s is a high-end sandwich shop offering sandwiches that are 5, 8, 10 or 18 inches long – also dubbed the rookie, beloved, always right and notorious sizes, respectively.

The menu here is a lot different from your typical sandwich shop.

It starts off with cheesesteaks, including the classic steak sandwich, but also Wagyu beef, chicken and Impossible vegetarian versions.

One highlight?

The Bobbie, which is described as Thanksgiving dinner on a sub. It’s shredded turkey that’s roasted in the oven every night, with cranberry sauce, stuffing and mayonnaise. It comes cold or grilled and is named after the Aunt Bobbie of one of the founders.
