This store in Fresno’s River Park set to close as chain retailer files for bankruptcy

Kitchen and cookware store Sur La Table will close its location in Fresno’s River Park.

The Seattle-based chain store filed for bankruptcy Thursday, with plans to close more than 50 of its 121 stores.

It will sell its remaining shops to affiliates of Fortress Investment Group following the bankruptcy procedure and store closures. The post-sale company will also include its in-person and online cooking classes and its e-commerce business.

The Fresno store is closing permanently in August or September, according to its website.

The store, which is between REI and Panera Bread, opened in 2007. Its sells upscale kitchen supplies, knives, appliances and cookware, from cake pans in the shape of castles to $50 bottles of vanilla extract. It also hosts cooking classes.

The chain is closing several other California stores, including in Santa Barbara, Carmel, San Jose, Santa Clara, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Glendale and La Jolla.

Its flagship store, in Seattle’s Pike Place Market, will remain open.

River Park has been hit with a few closures recently, including Yoshino Japanese restaurant, Planet Hair and Macaroni Grill.
