This Clovis teacher got her chance at ‘The Price is Right’ showcase. But did she win?

Ann Sin is afraid of being in front of people, which she’ll tell you — but you might not believe it given the fact she has not once, but twice now, found herself competing for prizes in front of a national television audience.

Three years ago, the Fresno Unified math teacher was featured on an episode of “Wheel of Fortune.”

She and partner Julie Johnson (also an educator in FUSD) came in second place.

Then in November, Sin was chosen to compete on CBS game show “The Price is Right,” where she made it all the way to the final showcase, which she bid on and won.

It was a kitchen and a new car.

The episode aired on Friday.

Sin, who lives in Clovis, is a longtime fan of game shows. She says when she came to the United States from Hong Kong in 1982, watching game shows every day — especially, “Wheel of Fortune” — helped her and her family learn English.

She found out last year through a post on Facebook that “The Price is Right” was looking for contestants, and this being the show’s 50th anniversary, knew she wanted to be a part of that. She applied and landed a Zoom interview with producers.

It was perfect, what with her being an online teacher.

She was chosen to be part of a taping, but had to get through a second interview to be chosen to compete.

“You have five seconds to sell yourself,” Sin says.

Producers are looking for someone bubbly and jumpy and fun.

“I checked all that off the list,” she says.

On Friday, Sin had an episode watch party with coworkers and students from the district’s eLearn Academy. The students followed along at home, rooting for their teacher as she gave running commentary on the game play.

Sin was able to use experience as a teachable moment, a way to show the students that they too can overcome their fears, she says.

“What’s the best way to do it? Doing all these silly interviews and getting myself out there.”

Already, her friends and coworkers are pushing her to try out for other shows, like “The Amazing Race” or “Survivor.”

She’s not so sure about all that, but would love to compete on “The Price is Right” again, in another 10 years for its 60th anniversary season.

“It’s been good for me for sure,” she says.
