Woman walking on Highway 41 in Lemoore hit and killed by big rig
A woman was struck and killed by a big rig while walking on the highway in Lemoore Monday evening, the California Highway Patrol said.
According to Sgt. Jose Macias, at around 5:45 p.m. the semi truck was driving south on Highway 41 and approaching the intersection of Hanford Armona Road when he spotted a woman walking in the second lane and not using the crosswalk. The truck driver tried to swerve to avoid hitting her, but she was struck and killed.
Macias said the driver of the truck stayed at the scene and cooperated with authorities. The driver did not appear to be under the influence at the time of the crash, Macias said.
The CHP reported it was not known why the woman was walking on the highway.
