Bullets flew on Highway 99 in Fresno. CHP arrests man in car-to-car shooting
The California Highway Patrol early Thursday arrested a Madera man in a car-to-car shooting in Fresno that began in Madera as a chase involving a Mustang and a Chevy pickup, and ended on West Olive Avenue.
Simon Garcia Jr. was booked on multiple charges, including negligent discharge of a firearm and driving under the influence.
CHP spokesman Mike Salas said the incident began about 2 a.m., when the Mustang driver reported being pursued by the pickup near Avenue 12. The Mustang driver also reported he was possibly being fired on as the vehicles drove at speeds of 90 mph.
Salas said officers pulled over the pickup on Olive Avenue west of 99, and the driver, identified as Garcia, stepped out. A 9 mm shell casing dropped from his lap.
