Seeking entertainment during stay-at-home order? Check out these Fresno-area livecasts
By now, the effects of the coronavirus and California’s stay-at-home order are clear to Fresno-area artist and musicians.
The bars and nightclubs have been closed, officially, and live music venues have canceled or postponed all events for the foreseeable future.
Not that it’s stopped some artists from continuing to perform.
On the national scene, artists like John Legend, Pink, Keith Urban and Chris Martin have all done live-streamed performances. The Dropkick Murphys did a virtual St. Patrick’s Day concert from Boston streamed across several social media platforms.
In Fresno, artists are also taking to social media to stay connected with fans (and maybe get some monetary support).
Guitarist songwriter Roger Perry is performed live at 7 p.m. last Friday on his Facebook page. “Venmo tips will be appreciated,” he said.
The John Clifton Blues Band will performed Sunday afternoon Facebook live concert, for fans who can’t see them on their canceled spring tour.
Patrick Contreras and his Violin on Fire has a schedule of live streaming performances that runs through the month, including a Beatles tribute he did last Friday, that he followed with a virtual perform from the Reedley restaurant The Wakehouse.
The Wakehouse is doing nightly music streams from its Facebook page @thewakehouserules. On Friday, it hosts a Cumbiatron dance party.
DJ Roeski is doing a nightly Co-Roe-Na Dance Party mix. The live 60-minute DJ sets are streamed live at 8 p.m. on Instragram Live, @djroeski.
40 Watt Hype is partnering the CMAC and Fresno Teachers Association for a Stay At Home Concert, 7 p .m. Saturday on the FTA’s Facebook page @fresnota. The FTA will donate $10,000 to help feed families (through meal distributions and food donations) are is asking the community, if able, to donate what they can to help match that amount.
This weekend, Teezzy Radio, of Fresno Street Eats fame, hosts Quarantinefest. The virtual music festival run 5 p.m. to midnight on @teezyradio on Instagram live.
The Kern County Live Stream Music Festival happens Saturday at noon. The event features music from La Marcha, Rod P and Nu Standard, The Prisoners Of Love, Ill Tiempo, The Jay Smith Group, Dj Mickey Rock, Groupo SenZible and more. It can be seen at @massventertainment on Facebook
Fresno rock band Stoneshiver is streaming a special acoustic concert at 7 p.m. April 4 on Facebook and Instagram. The event is in place of the canceled Selma Craft Beer Festival, and serves as a fundraiser for Selma Cancer Support.
Fresno State radio station KFSR has taken a different tact with The Local Show. The Sunday night radio program is featuring an ongoing series of YouTube videos of local musicians playing in their homes. The videos can be seen on the show’s Facebook page.
On Sunday, Fresno Famouso (which is co-produced by The Bee reporter Joshua Tehee) held its first real-time arts showcase, with actors, musicians, poets and dancers. Video of the live cast can be see on the group’s Facebook page.
And it’s not just live musicians. Other local creative types are using social media to create virtual meetups. Fresno jewelry maker Fresloca is hosted a Vibin Live event on Instagram, @fresloca.
