A Clovis family was on ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.’ Here’s when the episode will air
Some will remember that “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” was in Clovis in late July, building a house for Nick Reeder and his family.
Those who weren’t part of the big “Move That Bus” unveiling will finally get a chance to see exactly how the home turned out when the episode airs at 8 p.m. Sunday, March 8, on HGTV.
For some backstory, “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” got a reboot (and new host Jesse Tyler Ferguson) last year and quickly announced it was looking for inspirational stories from the Fresno area (cuing off of Mary Ann Riojas’ story for the original series’ run in 2009, no doubt).
Enter Nick Reeder, a CalFire captain and widowed father of three girls who was living in a 900-square-foot apartment with his mother. Reeder’s wife, Amanda Sawyer, died after giving birth to twins Kaia and Kelce in April 2018. Reeder was also caring for his 4-year-old daughter, Layla.
More than 2,000 volunteers worked with the show’s design crew to build the zero-energy home, located in The Highlands by De Young community in east Clovis. In classic “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” form, the build was completed in a week of round-the-clock working.
What HGTV says about the episode: “With help from hundreds of volunteers, Jesse, special guest Jasmine Roth, star of HGTV’s Hidden Potential, and the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition designers Breegan Jane, Carrie Locklyn and Darren Keefe built the Reeder family a brand-new home with a mountain rustic inspired design in less than one week. Jasmine worked with Nick’s firefighter friends to build the kids a firehouse-themed playhouse and help Darren finish a custom farmhouse table engraved with a personalized family crest.”
