Ashley Swearengin highlights Central Valley with new radio feature on KYNO, K-Jewel
During her run as mayor of Fresno, Ashley Swearengin became a recognized pro-Fresno voice; often extolling the virtues of the city and the Central Valley in interviews and at public events.
She continues in that role as the host of “Something to Think About,” a new daily feature that started Monday on K-Jewel 105.5 and 1430 KYNO. The addition is part of an expansion of local content at One Putt Broadcasting, the radio group that owns both stations. Swearengin will be joined by Fresno County Supervisor Andreas Borgeas, who will have his own daily feature discussing notable achievements in Fresno County. Already, both stations air “Eye on Education” with former Sanger Unified School District Superintendent Marc Johnson and “Health Watch” with Saint Agnes Medical Center CEO Nancy Hollingsworth.
The features are presented as one-minute commentary and air once in the morning, midday and afternoon. Additionally, the segments will be made available on both the K-Jewel and KYNO websites.
This isn’t the first time a former mayor has been on KYNO’s airwaves. Alan Autry hosted a talk show on the station from 2008 until 2010. But both stations have long aired community leaders “talking about subjects they are intimately familiar,” according to to release from John Ostlund, a partner in One Putt Broadcasting.
“It’s what makes local radio, local,” Ostlund says in the release.
The One Putt radio group runs seven stations including K-Jewel (which changed to a more local format in January) and the adult contemporary station 99.3 NOW FM.
