Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr is speaking out about claims by the wife of a Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback who said the offensive line purposely failed to protect Carr against the Washington Redskins.

Miko Grimes, wife of the Buccaneers’ Brent Grimes, said Tuesday on a syndicated radio show that Carr and the offensive line were “fighting” and “allowed him to get injured.”

The Redskins beat the Raiders 27-10, sacking Carr four times in a pitiful offensive performance. But Carr didn’t get hurt until the next week at Denver, where he suffered a back injury that sidelined him one game.

Many disputed Grimes’ statements Tuesday. Carr chimed in Wednesday, telling reporters in Alameda, “I don’t pay any mind to that kind of stuff, because making false claims about somebody before you know them and about a group of guys, that has no business in our world if we’re trying to promote peace and love. I don’t think that has any place.”

Carr quoted from Scripture on Twitter on Tuesday evening, citing a verse that seemed to take Grimes to task. Wednesday, he said that wasn’t the case:

“If you see anything, you see I’ve posted a lot of Scriptures. Literally, you could ask anybody who has the YouVersion Bible app, that was the Scripture of the day and I just posted it and then everybody started, ‘Oh shade,’ this and all that. I’m bigger than that.”

Raiders offensive tackle Donald Penn, running backs DeAndre Washington and Jalen Richard and punter Marquette King were among Carr’s Raiders teammates who took to Twitter to shoot down any notion of team discord.

Carr’s older brother, Darren, responded sarcastically on Twitter, “Ya..... totally see my brother saying that.”
