Will this be another bounceback week for the Raiders? Derek Carr hopes so

Since Week 11 in 2015, the Oakland Raiders have always recovered from a regular-season loss with a win the next week.

The Raiders are on the spot again this week after a lackluster performance in a 27-10 loss to the Washington Redskins on Sunday night.

Next up for Oakland (2-1) is another road game – and this time it’s against the AFC West rival Denver Broncos (2-1) on Sunday.

Raiders quarterback Derek Carr, who didn’t play well against Washington, said Wednesday that it’s all part of his learning process. And one of his mentors is his older brother, former NFL quarterback David Carr.

“My brother always told me … ‘You’re going to find something each and every week,’ ” Carr said before practice Wednesday. “Whether you go through something or anything, he said, ‘As much time you crammed into your day, you’ll find something. You’re always going to find something to get better.’ He said, ‘As soon as you don’t, stop playing because it’s time for you to be done.’ ”

In Sunday’s loss, Carr completed 19 of 31 for 118 yards and one touchdown to go along with two interceptions for a passer rating 52.9.

Carr’s career low in a full game was 117 passing yards against the Kansas City Chiefs in a 41-17 loss last season.

But Carr and the Raiders bounced back with a 30-19 victory over the San Diego Chargers the following week to clinch the franchise’s first playoff berth since 2002.

The Raiders haven’t lost back-to-back games since 2015 (Week 8-10).

Still, lessons were to be learned following the loss to the Redskins.

“I’m so weird, even if my notes were too messy, maybe I need to be more detailed,” Carr said. “Maybe I need to write them better. Maybe I need to be cleaner with my preparation. Without getting too much into it, I look at things, maybe I can do it this way and do this a little bit better going into the next game.

“Anytime you get punched in the mouth, you’ve got to fight back. You’ve got to fight back and figure what it was. I have to come back and work harder. Whatever that means or whatever it looks like … just try to do it better.”
