Grizzlies Report for Sept. 4: Fresno 7, Salt Lake 4
Friday recap: The 2015 Grizzlies are now the winningest in franchise history, as Robbie Grossman and Andrew Aplin hit two-run singles in a four-run first and Fresno beat Salt Lake 7-4. The Grizzlies (82-58) broke the single-season wins record they shared with the inaugural team of 1998.
Grizzlies on Saturday: Fresno RH Mark Appel (4-2, 4.67 ERA) faces Salt Lake RH Drew Rucinski (5-6, 5.76) at 7:05 p.m. in the third-to-last game of the regular season. Appel went 3-0 in six August starts, with the three no-decisions coming in Grizzlies wins. During that span, he has limited opposing batters to a .241 average, compiled 36 strikeouts and allowed 17 runs in 36.1 innings for a 4.21 ERA. It is also Fresno State Night, with the Grizzlies wearing Bulldogs-themed jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game.
Runner-up: Fresno’s Tony DeFrancesco was second in PCL Manager of the Year voting, with Oklahoma City’s Damon Berryhill winning the award Friday. Fresnan Jason Wood, manager at Round Rock, was third.
