Grizzlies Report for Aug. 30: Omaha 4, Fresno 2

Sunday recap: Preston Tucker hit his first home run in eight games since rejoining Fresno from major league parent club Houston, but the two-run shot in the first was all the Grizzlies would generate in a 4-2 loss at Omaha to close out the series and road trip.

Grizzlies on Monday: Fresno will play its final eight regular-season games at home, beginning at 7:05 p.m. against Albuquerque. The Grizzlies once again have stumbled to close out a month, losers of five in a row entering Monday. Fresno ended July having lost five of six and closed out June by dropping six of eight. Grizzlies RH Mark Appel (3-2, 4.69 ERA) is scheduled to make what could be his final Triple-A start, pending a decision by the Astros whether he’ll be called up when big-league rosters expand Tuesday. In his last outing, Appel picked up the win that clinched the Pacific Northern Division title for the Grizzlies, allowing three runs on four hits and four walks in six innings. Appel is 0-1 with a 6.20 ERA in four starts at Chukchansi Park this season. He will face RH Boone Whiting (3-8, 6.02).

Stat of the day: 1-7 – Grizzlies’ record during their final trip of the regular season, which includes a five-game losing streak since locking up the division. The Grizzlies (79-56) are the only Triple-A team that has clinched a division title. Regular-season play wraps up Sept. 7.
