A man was in surgery Monday night after being shot in northeast Fresno.

Police Lt. Mindy Casto said that about 9:30 p.m., a crowd was gathered at Butterfly Grove Apartments at 5231 N. Fresno St. when one shot was fired, striking the man in the lower body.

The victim was transported to Community Regional Medical Center and was in surgery for critical wounds.

Casto said police believe the suspect is a white, bald male who was last seen wearing a black T-shirt and gray shorts. She said he possibly fled in a red vehicle.

There was no information about the weapon.“We have a lot of people left to talk to, so we’ll get to the bottom of that,” Castro said.
