Man’s body found in Friant-Kern Canal near Exeter

A dead man has been found in the Friant-Kern Canal and the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department is trying to identify him.

The discovery where the canal goes under Avenue 268 southeast of Exeter was reported about 8:20 p.m. Thursday.

A dive team pulled the body out of the water, and detectives said there were no obvious signs of trauma or foul play.

The body had been in the water for a long time, the sheriff’s department said.

No identification was found with the body and there have been no missing persons reports matching the man.

This incident is being handled as a suspicious death until an autopsy can determine the cause of death.
