A woman’s body was found Sunday afternoon in a canal in southwest Fresno, said Lt. Jon Alvarado with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.

The woman, identified Tuesday by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office as Debora Deaver, 48, of Fresno, was found near Jensen and Brawley avenues in a dry canal. A passing motorist saw the body and called authorities, who arrived around 2:45 p.m., according to Alvarado.

Her death is being called “questionable.” Tony Botti, Fresno County Sheriff’s Office spokesman, said authorities have not determined a cause of death pending results of toxicology tests.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about the case to contact Detective Brian Schulte at 559-600-8207 or Brian.Schulte@fresnosheriff.org or Crime Stoppers at 559-498-7867.
