The family was living in a tent when the 1-year-old boy ingested meth
The parents of a 1-year-old boy were arrested Tuesday morning after a trip to the emergency room determined the infant ingested methamphetamine, Porterville police reported.
The Porterville boy was taken to Sierra View Medical Center before 4 a.m. by a family member, police said in a news release.
Officers responded to an address in Porterville and found the infant’s parents, 25-year-old Amanda Gagnon and 33-year-old Joel Vasquez. Police said the couple was living in a tent on the property with the infant and another 2-year-old child.
The parents were high on a controlled substance at the time when police visited.
Both children were treated at the hospital and released to Child Welfare Services.
Gagnon and Vasquez were arrested and booked into Tulare County Jail, where they remained on $100,000 bail.
