CHP said she was drinking underage. Now 1 is dead, 4 hurt in Three Rivers crash
One man died and a 20-year-old woman was arrested after the California Highway Patrol says she was drunk and crashed her car into a boulder Friday night in Three Rivers.
Vanessa Murillo was driving her blue Hyundai Elantra south on North Fork Drive with four passengers around 8 p.m. Friday when she drove onto the shoulder at a curve in the road and then over-corrected. The car spun around, crossed both lanes and hit a boulder, CHP said. The car flew up into the air after impact and hit a tree, landing on its roof.
The three backseat passengers were not wearing seatbelts. The man who died broke his neck in the crash, the CHP said. His name was not released pending notification of family.
Casandra Diaz, 21, broke her pelvis and both legs.
One of the men ran away before the CHP could identify him, and the passengers would not give officers information about him. The CHP said he had a complaint of pain to the back.
Murillo and her 20-year-old front seat passenger, Tanya Cisneros, were wearing seatbelts, the CHP said. Murillo had a laceration to her head and left leg and an abrasion to her left arm. Cisneros broke her left collarbone and left leg, and she had neck pain.
Murillo was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving.
The three identified passengers and Murillo are all from Tulare, the CHP said.
