Fresno teens’ dispute ends with one shot several times

A dispute among teenagers turned violent Wednesday night in Fresno, as a 16-year-old was shot multiple times near East Alta and South Pierce avenues.

The boy was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where he underwent surgery and remained in critical condition.

Multiple 911 calls and an alert from the Fresno Police Department’s ShotSpotter system, brought officers to the scene about 8 p.m. A boy, 16, was found with gunshot wounds.

The boy was walking along the sidewalk when he was approached by two people, both believed to be in their late teens, Lt. Steve Card said. An altercation broke out and one of the other teens had a handgun.

The assailant fired and continued shooting, even after the 16-year-old fell to the ground.

Police believe the incident was gang related, though the investigation remains ongoing.
