Man shot Saturday in central Fresno identified

A 43-year-old man slain Saturday night after a shooting near San Pablo and Vasser avenues in central Fresno was identified by the Fresno County Coroner as Augustine Velasco, 43.

Officers responding about 6:30 p.m. to the area found the Velasco with a gunshot wound to his upper body.

The man was standing outside an apartment when he was shot, police said. He was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, reported in critical condition but later died.
