Two shot, one fatally, outside auto parts store in northwest Fresno
Two people were shot, one fatally, Monday afternoon outside a northwest Fresno auto parts store, Fresno police said.
The Fresno County Coroner’s Office on Tuesday identified the dead man as 20-year-old Deionte Wade of Fresno.
The shooting victims were outside the Auto Zone store in the 6300 block of North Figarden Loop, near Brawley Avenue, when they were shot about 2:45 p.m., said police Lt. Mark Hudson.
Wade was taken to Community Regional Medical Center where he later died. The second victim was taken to Saint Agnes Medical Center with less severe injuries, according to Fresno County Emergency Medical Services.
A young man who drove into the parking lot after police had arrived said he recognized one of the men being detained as a friend from high school.
Tiago Paim, a graduate of Central High, said he and the suspect also went to middle school at the same time.
“I was in shock,” he said. “We were really close in middle school.”
Two men were detained for questioning.
It is not known if the shooting is gang-related but that is being looked into, said Capt. Burke Farrah at the scene.
The names and ages of the surviving shooting victim and the suspect were not available.
