Fresno Fire Department shut down Clinton Avenue east of Clovis Avenue Monday after a reported hazardous materials spill.

The spill was reported about 9:50 a.m. after a vehicle dropped a white powder just east of Clovis. Witnesses said a person was trying to clean up the substance, but no one was found when firefighters arrived. Clinton was blocked east to Argyle Avenue.

A fire spokesman said firefighters with the department’s HazMat team tested the substance and determined it was not a threat.
