Huron shooting leaves 14-year-old dead. Another boy, 13, is accused of his murder

A 13-year old is accused of murder after a 14-year old boy was killed Friday night in Huron.

The older boy was dead when Huron police arrived at the Porvenir Estates Apartments in the 16000 block of West Tornado Avenue just before 10 p.m., the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office reported. The 13-year old was found in town.

The gun has not been found, Sheriff’s Lt. Mark Padilla said Saturday night, nor is it known what type it was, who it belongs to, or how the 13-year old boy accessed it.

But at this point, investigators do not believe the shooting was accidental. The boy is in custody at a Fresno County Juvenile Justice Campus.

“It’s very unusual,” Padilla said, “to have this level of violence that young in age.”

Because the suspect is a minor, his name was not released. The name of the victim also was not made avaiable. An autopsy is scheduled for Sunday.

Anyone who might know someting more about the boys or the incident is asked to call Detective Jose Dias, 559-600-8206 or email him at jose.diaz@fresnosheriff.org.
