Three killed in shootout in east-central Fresno home identified

Two men killed Tuesday in a violent gunbattle with the resident of a home in east-central Fresno were identified as Xavier Williams, 23, and Elijah Mays Sr., 27, both of Sacramento.

The Fresno County coroner also identified Chong Yang, 69, as the resident of the home in the 5200 block of East Hammond Avenue who was slain in the shootout .

Gunfire broke out about 8 a.m. in the neighborhood near North Peach and East Olive avenues after police reported Williams and Mays entered the home, one armed with a handgun.

They reportedly held Yang at gunpoint in the living room, but were surprised when a 30-year-old resident confronted them with an AR-15 rifle and gunfire erupted.

Williams, Mays and Yang died of gunshot wounds. The 30-year-old sustained a gunshot wound to his shoulder.

Police continue to investigate the homicides.
