A man was in serious condition and a child was struck with drywall after a bullet went through the man and into an adjacent apartment west of Highway 99 in Fresno on Saturday morning.

The man was found with a gunshot wound to his stomach in the 4800 block of North Polk Avenue, near Fairmont Avenue, just after 8:20 a.m. He was transported to Community Regional Medical Center where he was in serious but stable condition, said Fresno police acting Lt. Jerardo Chamalbide.

The man could not give police a statement because he does not speak English, but witnesses told police that another person known to the victim shot him in his apartment, Chamalbide said. The bullet went through the man and through the wall, splintering drywall next door that struck an 11-year-old girl on the arm. The child was injured but did not need medical assistance.

Anyone with information is asked to call Fresno police at 559-621-7000.
