A fire broke out in a recycling center south of Fresno on Tuesday night, and employees helped firefighters extinguish the blaze, the Fresno Fire Department said.

The fire started at 11:38 p.m. at Cedar Avenue Recycling and Transfer Station near Highway 99 and Cedar Avenue, said Hector Vasquez, a fire department spokesman.

Some debris caught fire, setting off the station’s sprinkler system, Vasquez said.

A total of 32 firefighters were on scene, but Vasquez said workers at the center helped by using heavy machinery to break up the large pile of burning debris.

There was no structural damage, and no one was injured.
