Selma Unified bus driver among 3 victims of mobile home fire
A Selma Unified bus driver and trainer was one of three people who died in an early morning fire that erupted Thursday west of Selma, school district officials confirmed.
Cortney Ramirez worked for the district for 11 years, said Larry Teixeira, the assistant superintendent for business services.
“It’s a small department, so they’re pretty shaken up about it in transportation,” Teixeira said.
The home was on a rural property near Temperance and Nebraska avenues, where the flames broke out about 3:30 a.m.
Fresno County Fire spokesman Jeremiah Wittwer said a teenager was able to wake up and escape the fire, but the others inside, all believed to be adults, perished.
The investigation is just starting, and the cause is not yet known.
