A 67-year-old man riding his bicycle died in Selma on Friday afternoon after a collision with a garbage truck, police said.

The man, who was identified later Friday by the Fresno County Coroner as Bernadino Delariva of Selma, was initially riding his bike on the sidewalk just after noon near the intersection of South Highland and Floral avenues, Selma Police Chief Greg Garner said. The man then entered the intersection headed westbound in the crosswalk.

At the same time, a garbage truck was making a right turn onto Highland on a green light. The truck and Delariva collided, and he died as a result of his injuries, Garner said.
