One dead in head-on collision between Freightliner and pickup
A head-on collision between a semi truck and pickup truck on Highway 190 between Tipton and Porterville resulted in one death, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash happened about 4 a.m. Thursday west of Poplar in Tulare County. The CHP said the pickup driver, a 33-year-old man from Terra Bella, allowed his 1994 Chevrolet to cross the broken yellow lines into the path of the 2000 Freightliner. The driver, who wasn’t wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the truck and died of his injuries at the scene.
The driver of the big rig, a 26-year-old man from Strathmore, braked and swerved but couldn’t avoid the head-on collision. The big rig overturned into a dry canal. The big rig driver didn’t suffer any reported injuries.
The CHP said neither alcohol nor drugs are considered to be a factor in the crash.
