Yup, it’s hot. Fresno just set a record for this date in history
It was 109 degrees at 5 p.m. Saturday in Fresno, breaking the 1955 record for the date by one degree.
The 109 mark was recorded by 3 p.m., according to the National Weather Service’s temperature gauge at Fresno Yosemite International Airport, the official report for the city. It stayed spiked at 109 until the NWS update just before 6 p.m., when it inched down to 108.
Despite the record, local hospitals are not seeing a spike in patients for heat-related illnesses.
Community Regional Medical Center spokeswoman Mary Lisa Russell said there had been two patients treated in the emergency room for heat-related illnesses as of 4 p.m. Saturday.
It was similarly quiet at Kaiser Permanente in north Fresno, spokeswoman Kerri Leedy said.
There is some more good news. Christine Riley of the weather service office in Hanford said Fresno can expect a cool-down beginning Sunday with a forecast high of 107.
And temperatures are expected to drop to nearly normal beginning Monday through Wednesday. Then starting Thursday, Riley said, temperatures are expected to be below normal through at least Sunday.
