Man dies after fall of up to 40 feet at Fresno construction site
A man died after falling up to 40 feet at a construction site south of Fresno on Wednesday morning, Fresno County Sheriff’s Lt. Joe Smith said.
He was identified as Kirk Smith, 49, of Fresno.
Fresno police initially responded about 9 a.m. to the site at 850 E. Central Ave., just east of Highway 41, where a man in his 30s to early 40s had fallen.
The man died en route to Community Regional Medical Center, Smith said.
Cal/OSHA, the state agency in charge of setting workplace safety standards, has opened an investigation into the death, spokesman Luke Brown said Thursday.
The man fell through a skylight, he said. The agency has six months to issue citations, he said.
