Firefighters converge on blaze reported near Bass Lake

A fire on federal land is spreading near Bass Lake and Cal Fire and Madera County firefighters are being called to assist.

The Camp fire started about 1 p.m. Tuesday near Central Camp at a Forest Service Road near Bass Lake. The fire is east of Road 274 and was started after ATV crashed.

The fire is on a bike trail known as the 007. The fire is about 4.5 miles away from Road 274. The area has been beset by large fires and losses of homes in recent years.

Aerial attack firefighters are en route. Initial reports indicated up to 10 acres on acreage about 2:15 p.m. The fire was being pushed away from Bass Lake by increasing winds.

Firefighters were advising campers at Whiskers and Gaggs campgrounds of the fire and warn them.
