Man shoots self in a public Clovis park, police say

A Clovis man was found bleeding with a gunshot wound to his head at a Clovis park on Friday afternoon, Clovis police reported.

Clovis police detectives say the unidentified man in his 20s went to Gettysburg Park about 3:55 p.m. He is believed to have shot himself and was dead when officers arrived, said Ty Wood, a police spokesman.

As officers arrived they found the man leaning down and excessive blood at the scene, he said.

“There is no suspicion or evidence of foul play,” Wood said.

The park is south of Gettysburg Elementary School at Burl and Richert avenues. The park was closed as police continued their investigation.
