Body found in canal’s cold, fast-running water in central Fresno
Firefighters were working Monday to remove a body from a canal at McKinley and Millbrook avenues in central Fresno.
The canal is filled with fast-moving, cold water from the Sierra. What began as a rescue effort became a recovery operation.
A witness walking by the canal saw the body and called for rescuers about 1:30 p.m., Fresno Fire Department spokesman Hector Vasquez said.
Firefighters were preparing to go into the water, but first were putting a camera into the water to determine the body’s exact location.
