The New Yorker says he saved magic. See the death-defying illusionist live on stage
David Blaine is more than a magician, or even an illusionist for that matter.
He’s an endurance artist (per his website) who also does magic, sometimes on television and also at theaters and arenas. When he decides to tour, anyway.
In May, Blaine kicks off a 36-city live tour that includes a stop at Fresno’s Saroyan Theatre on May 9. Tickets for the show go on sale noon March 2 at the theater box office, online at livenation.com or davidblaine.com. Citi cardmembers will get presale access starting 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Blaine brought magic (of the Harry Houdini, David Copperfield sort) to modern audiences, with a fusion of on-the-street, sleight-of-hand-and-illusion work and incredible “stunt” performances. He’s been buried alive and encased in a block of ice. He stood on a 100-foot pillar for 36 hours with no safety net and lived in a clear box for more than a month with nothing but water. He also held his breath for 17 minutes – that one was on Oprah and set a world record.
Here’s how he did it.
In announcing the tour, Live Nation gave away few details on what exactly people can expect from the show.
It will be an “interactive experience to shock and awe audiences,” according to the release.
