Presidente de Fresno State Saúl Jiménez-Sandoval a graduantes: “Ahora es tu momento”.

¡Es un privilegio estar aquí para felicitar a nuestros graduados chicanos y latinos de la clase de 2022! Están reunidos aquí hoy con amigos y familiares, y con los miembros de la comunidad que mejor conocen a nuestros graduados.

Su presencia aquí hoy es una afirmación de los dones especiales que nuestros graduados poseen: Determinación para vencer; creatividad para imaginar el futuro y sus infinitas posibilidades; un buen corazón consciente y orgulloso de las raíces de su cultura; una mente consciente de las dolorosas lecciones de la historia y de cómo éstas aún impactan nuestro presente; y sobre todo, ganas – las ganas para creer en ustedes mismos y las ganas para creer en tus sueños y no darse por vencidos.

Sé que contribuirán al legado muy orgulloso de graduados de Fresno State. Ustedes han demostrado ser los estudiantes más impresionantes, innovadores, trabajadores y resistentes que jamás hayan caminado por este campus, y por eso, hoy ¡los celebramos y aplaudimos colectivamente!

Los graduados aquí obtuvieron una educación de la mejor calidad, una educación que los preparó como líderes en sus industrias, y dicha responsabilidad conlleva el compromiso de servir a los demás.

Admiro a los estudiantes de Fresno State, porque tienen la inteligencia, perseverancia, y ganas necesarias para resolver los problemas complejos de nuestro mundo: han crecido en un entorno multicultural y multilingüe, en una de las ciudades más diversas de los EE.UU., y tienen la capacidad de comunicarse, con pasión, con el fin de efectuar un buen cambio en el mundo.

Y nada los detendrá, porque han tenido que luchar para estar donde están hoy.

Así que hoy celebramos la fortaleza de su carácter. De estos hijos e hijas del Valle Central, con la determinación y fuerza de enorgullecer a sus familias.

¿Qué significa ser un Bulldog de Fresno State? El triunfar en el aula, para efectuar un cambio en la comunidad. Un cambio que enorgullece a las familias, y fortalece el tejido social de nuestras comunidades. ¡Eso es lo que significa ser un Bulldog de Fresno State!

Hoy pregúntense: ¿Quién te ayudó para conseguir tu diploma? Y, ¿a quién se lo dedicas? Tómate un momento para agradecer a quienes te ayudaron a llegar a este momento.

Por último, congratúlate a ti mismo, porque con fortaleza y muchas ganas, lo has logrado.

Ahora es tu momento. El mundo es tuyo para cambiar. Entonces, a las clase de 2022, en nombre de mi esposa, la Dra. Mariana Anagnostopoulos, y mío, extiendo nuestras más sinceras felicitaciones.

It is my privilege to be here to congratulate our Chicano and Laitno graduates from the class of 2022! You’re gathered here today with friends and family, and with the members of the campus community who know you best.

Your presence here today is an affirmation of the special gifts you possess: Determination to overcome; creativity to imagine the future of possibilities; a good hear that’s aware and proud of the roots of your people; a mind conscious of the painful lessons of history and how they still impact our present; and, above all, grit – the grit to to believe in yourself and the grit to believe in your dream of creating a better world.

I know that you will contribute to the very proud legacy of Chicano and Latino alumni who’ve contributed to the richness of our beautiful Central Valley.

You have proven yourselves to be the most impressively innovative, hard-working, and resilient students ever to walk this campus; and for that, we collectively celebrate you and applaud you!

Not only have you earned a top-quality education, which has prepared you to become leaders in your industries, you have shown your commitment to serving others.

I admire our Chicano/Latino Fresno State students because you have what it takes to solve our world’s complex issues: You have grown up in a multicultural, multilingual environment in one of the most diverse cities in the U.S., and you have the ability to communicate, with passion, in order to create good change in the world.

And nothing will stop you, because you’ve had to fight to be where you are today.

So today, we celebrate the strength of your character. You’ve earned your college degree amidst the uncertainty of a pandemic, but even that couldn’t stop you. It proves that no obstacle will keep you down – that you have the grit to accomplish your goals, set an example to those around you, and to help others along the way.

That is what it means to be a Fresno State Bulldog.

Today, take a moment to think of the people who helped you along the way – whether it was a school teacher who believed in you, an employer who accommodated your class schedule, or a parent or grandparent who dreamed big on your behalf.

Take a moment to thank those who helped you reach this moment.

Now is your time. The world is yours to change. So, to the class of 2022, on behalf of my wife, Dr. Mariana, Anagnostopoulos, and myself, I extend our most sincere congratulations. Go Dogs!
