What does President Joe Biden say to newly sworn-in U.S citizens? Here are his words.
With the COVID-19 pandemic changing the dynamics of naturalization ceremonies at USCIS Fresno Field Office, the new American citizens in the Central Valley have not been able to watch President Joe Biden’s video congratulatory message at each of their ceremonies this year.
“Ceremonies done these days are much shorter than the classic ceremonies,” said Sharon Rummery, public affairs officer for the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
Since the pandemic started in 2020, the USCIS Fresno Field Office has done different formats – drive through, as well as small outdoors and indoors ceremonies with groups of 20 to 30 people schedule to take oath.
The last big ceremony took place at the Fresno Convention Center in March 2020.
However, Rummery said, the packet materials the new citizens receive at their sworn in ceremonies contain the link to BIden’s video.
In his 1 minute and 42 seconds video, Biden talks about the courage of those immigrants among other things.
Biden’s video message recorded to congratulate newly sworn U.S. citizens during his term in office was posted on April 5, 2021 at the USCIS YouTube channel.

Biden’s 240 words message:
Welcome my fellow Americans.
First and foremost - I want to thank you for choosing us, and believing that America is worthy of your aspirations.
Every immigrant comes to America from different circumstances, and for different reasons.
But you all have one thing in common - courage.
The courage it takes to sacrifice, and make this journey.
The courage to leave your homes, your lives, your loved ones, and come to a nation that is more than just a place, but rather an idea.
An idea that where everyone is created equal and deserves be treated equally.
The idea that we have as a nation, and we can define America in one word - possibilities.
Possibilities since its founding. The very idea has been nurtured, enriched, and advanced by the contributions, sacrifices, and dreams of immigrants like you.
And immigrants like my own ancestors from Ireland and like generations of our fellow Americans.
And today you’ve earned a new title equal to that of an American president.
The title I’m most proud of, citizen, citizen of the United States of America.
I look forward to standing with you as you embrace your new rights and responsibilities.
As you build your lives and legacies here - as generations have done before you in this great nation of immigrants.
So, welcome my friends, welcome my fellow Americans. Welcome.
May God bless you all and may God bless the United States of America.
