Tickets on sale Friday for Los Ángeles Azules Sept. 11 stop at Save Mart Center

Los Ángeles Azules – whose fusion of cumbia from the 1950s with the electronic music of the 1990s has transformed the family group into the top cumbia ambassadors in the world – has scheduled a Fresno stop on Sept. 11 as part of its 33-city De Iztapalapa Para El Mundo Tour.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday (April 22) at www.LosAngelesAzules.com.mx

Tickets start at $59.50, and can also be purchased at the Save Mart Center box office starting at noon.

The six Mejía Avante siblings – Elías, Alfredo, José Hilario, Jorge, Cristina and Guadalupe – formed the band in 1976 in Iztapalapa, a borough of México City that now has more than 1.8 million residents.

The group’s first hit was ‘Cómo Te Voy a Olvidar’ (How Am I Going to Forget You) in 1997. Other hits include ‘El Listón de Tu Pelo’ (The Ribbon in Your Hair) and ‘Nunca es Suficiente’ (It’s Never Enough).

Los Ángeles Azules, have recorded 30 albums, have recent hits with ‘Cumbia a la Gente’ (Cumbia for the People) and ‘Otra Noche’ (Another Night).

The band’s music, which has been called cumbia sonidera and symphonic cumia for recording with violins and other string instruments, has included collaborations with artists like Gloria Trevi, Natalia Lafourcade, and Lila Downs.

The tour promises special guests who will perform the group’s most iconic songs.

Los Ángeles Azules have performed at Coachella, and just sold out five consecutive shows in Buenos Aires.

The tour kicks off on Aug. 26 in Denver, and concludes Nov. 27 in Fairfax, Virginia.
