Soccer: Fresno Freeze roll in WPSL win
The Fresno Freeze women’s soccer team continued their hot-scoring ways, crushing Primero De Mayo for an 8-0 win in the Women’s Premier Soccer League on Sunday.
Last week, the Freeze beat the defending WPSL Pacific-North Division champion California Storm 5-1 to open the season.
Jaycee Bingham put the Freeze up with back-to-back goals in the 12th and 13th minutes on assists from Micaela Castain and Caitlyn Kreutz, respectively. Bingham added an assist in the 81st minute to Iris Torres.
Fresno City standout and San Francisco State-bound midfielder Vanessa Penuna also had two goals and one assist as a substitute. Kreutz, the Bee’s 2015 Player of the Year from Buchanan, had two assists and scored once.
The Freeze return to action Friday in the second PDL/WPSL doubleheader with the Fresno Fuego. The Freeze will host Tottenham Hotspur East Bay at 5:30 p.m. The Fuego will play the Southern California Seahorses in the late game at 7:30 p.m.
Let’s play two
The Fresno Fuego and Fresno Freeze soccer teams will play the second doubleheader of the PDL/WPSL seasons on May 29 at Chukchansi Park.
