Trail Mix for April 7: China Peak closing daily operations
China Peak Mountain Resort will stop daily operations after Sunday, remaining open weekends through April 24 – its final day of the season.
The resort, with hours of 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., has opened three chair lifts with access to most of the mountain in recent weeks.
At Lake Tahoe, a handful of ski resorts are extending their seasons. Heavenly Mountain Resort announced it will remain open through April 24, Mt. Rose-Ski Tahoe through May 8 and Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows through May 30, conditions permitting.
Veterans Day on the McKenzie – The Sierra Foothill Conservancy is hosting an open house at the McKenzie Preserve for veterans, current military and their families Sunday.
Enjoy activities from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., including walking Discovery Trail or hiking to the table tops for a picnic lunch overlooking the San Joaquin Valley.
There is a 300-person limit, so registration is required. No pets are allowed.

Cross the River Run – The annual fund raiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association returns to Woodward Park on Sunday. It features a 10K main event, a 2-mile run (with a walk option), and a quarter-mile youth race.
The 10K is the fifth installment of the Valley Runner of the Year series and worth 20 points.
Registration is $15 for children and $30 for adults. Prices increase $5 on race day.

Half Dome prep – Fresno’s REI Outdoor School is hosting a 90-minute clinic that will help participants learn what it takes to scale Yosemite’s Half Dome. The class is 1 p.m. Sunday at 7810 N. Blackstone Avenue.
