Footgolfers can make a statement on the international level next month when the Cup of the Nations is played in Sacramento.

The tournament is sanctioned by the Federation for International Footgolf (FIFG) and played on an official American Footgolf League course, Haggin Oaks Golf Complex, on Aug. 14-16.

The first day will consist of registration, practice rounds and an opening night party. Two official rounds will be played Saturday and Sunday. A cash purse of $17,500 is offered, with $5,000 going to the top men’s player and $1,000 to the top female. Team prizes and other awards will also be given.

The top three U.S. players will qualify for a spot on Team USA at next year’s Footgolf World Cup in Argentina.

Registration costs $375 per player, which includes a cart, gift package, opening night party, awards party, lunch and a preferred rate for accommodations. For players looking for places to practice, footgolf courses are in Madera, Visalia, Lindsay and Porterville.

iCAN TRI Youth Triathlon

When: 6 a.m. Sunday

Where: Clovis North Education Center, 2770 E. International Ave., Fresno

Open to youth ages 6 to 18, the event also serves as USA Triathlon’s Southwest Region Youth Championship. Events will start in 15-minute waves beginning at 7:30 a.m. Participants must register by noon Friday at www.icantri.org. Cost is $60 per person plus a USAT membership ($10 for a single day or $15 for the year). No race-day registration will be available. Chip timing will be provided.

Finisher medals will be given to each participant and individual awards to the top five in each one-year age group from 6 to 12, and the top three in the junior group (13-18). Courses vary by age, with 6- to 8-year-olds doing a 50-meter swim, 2-mile bike ride and half-mile run. The top-division course for F1 Youth and Junior Elite athletes has a 300-meter swim, 6-mile ride and 2-mile run.

▪ The High Sierra Volunteer Trail Crew is looking for help to build and maintain trails on multi-day backpacking trips. The next outing is scheduled for Sunday, July 16, through Saturday, July 25 — and spaces are still available.

Volunteers will hike 5 to 7 miles into and out of base camp in the Golden Trout Wilderness to the Long Meadow Trail, reaching elevations of 6,000 to 7,500 feet. The trip is free to all volunteers with food provided Sunday lunch through Saturday lunch.

▪ Fresno Cycling Club is hosting its annual Tour de Lakes ride this weekend. The ride starts at Shaver Lake and cyclists can choose a 10-mile round-trip to McKinley Grove or go as far as 70 miles to Wishon Dam and Courtright Reservoir. ▪ The REI members-only garage sale scheduled for Sunday, July 19, has been postponed one week. The new date is July 26. The store will hand out numbered wristbands at 4 p.m. with the lottery draw entry starting at 5 p.m. Memberships can be purchased on site for $20. All sales are final.
