Trail Mix for May 28: Bike safety classes offered; Shaver Lake youth fishing derby
A free lecture on bike safety will be held next month at Sunnyside Library in Fresno. The lecture is through the Fresno County Bicycle Coalition’s Smart Cycling Program. The 3-hour session will cover tips, tools and techniques on riding safely with traffic.
The lecture is the first half of a two-part program. The second part ($50 per person, $40 for FCBC supporting members) is an assessment in which participants will review their knowledge at Sunnyside High’s Bike Campus before taking a multiple-choice test and a 5-mile road test. If passed, participants will be awarded a certificate of completion.

Shaver Lake Youth Fishing Derby
When: June 13
Where: Meet at the boat launch just beyond the dam
Get your lines ready as the Youth Fishing Derby is not far upstream. The free event is open to anglers 3 to 15 years old and features a grand prize of a family fishing trip on the lake.
Prizes will be given out to anglers who catch the largest fish, smallest fish, most fish, first fish and last fish. A casting contest and a lucky bobber drawing are also planned. Free raffle prizes will also be given out throughout the day. Other top prizes include fishing boat rentals, tackle boxes, gift certificates and more.
Anglers will be split into three age groups: 3 to 7 years, 8 to 11 and 12 to 15.

▪ The Mud ’n Blood Zombie Run is Sunday at Hobb’s Grove in Sanger. Participants can choose to be zombies or runners on the 5K obstacle course (3K without running portions). Waves of runners will be released every 30 minutes starting at 8 a.m. Registration starts at $28 and people can sign up to be a runner, a zombie or both. Details: mudnbloodzombierun.com
