Trump takes time to talk baseball and rip Dodgers manager after questionable decision
For the Los Angeles Dodgers and other baseball fans who are questioning some of the pitching decisions by manager Dave Roberts in the World Series again, you are not alone.
The President of the United States agrees, and his criticism of others apparently extends beyond the politic realm.
Taking to Twitter to share his thoughts, Donald Trump said Roberts should’ve never taken out Dodgers starting pitcher Rich Hill on Saturday.
Trump said he was tuning in when the Dodgers squandered a four-run lead and eventually lost 9-6 to the Boston Red Sox and fell 3-1 in the best-of-seven World Series.
“It is amazing how a manager takes out a pitcher who is loose & dominating through almost 7 innings, Rich Hill of Dodgers, and brings in nervous reliever(s) who get shellacked,” Trump tweeted. “4 run lead gone. Managers do it all the time, big mistake!”
A reporter read Trump’s tweet back to Roberts during the postgame press conference and asked for the manager’s reaction.
Roberts seemed to smirk a little before responding:
“The President said that?” Roberts asked. “I’m happy he was tuning in, watching the game. I don’t know how many Dodgers games he’s watched.
“I don’t think he was privy to the conversation. That’s one man’s opinion.”
Roberts has been able to lead the Dodgers to back-to-back World Series appearances.
But he has made pitching decisions that have gone on to backfire when a championship has been on the line.
Like Saturday.
And even a year ago, when Roberts pulled Hill after four innings with the Dodgers down 1-0 during Game 2 of the World Series versus the Houston Astros.
Los Angeles captured a 3-1 lead through six innings but then the Dodgers bullpen ended up allowing six runs as the Astros prevailed 7-6 in 11 innings.
The Dodgers went on to lose that World Series in seven games.
Nonetheless, critics had words for Trump — for talking baseball instead of not sticking to more serious topics to discuss.
