It was a big game at Lamonica Stadium on Friday night between Clovis and Clovis West.

On the line are the top seeds in the Central Section Division I-AA playoffs.

The winner would likely get the No. 2 seed, and the other would get the No. 3 seed.

Turns out, it is the Cougars who will grab the No. 2 seed after a 28-17 victory over the Golden Eagles in the annual ‘Range Rider Trophy’ game.

Fresno State commit Deagan Rose passed for two touchdowns for Clovis, and running back James Curoso had two touchdowns.

Clovis leads the all-time series against Clovis West 24-23.

Seedings for the Central Section playoffs will take place Saturday.

Central East escape with victory

For whatever reason, the Central East High football team has a difficult time playing at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Just two weeks removed from rallying to defeat Clovis West 46-39, The Bee’s top-ranked Bengals needed some late magic and got it with a 46-38 victory over the Bears on Thursday night.

The win gives Central East an outright Tri-River Athletic Conference championship and clinched the top seed for the Central Section Division I-AA playoffs.

Leading the way for the Bengals is Brandon Smith, who once again scored five touchdowns. He finished the game with 23 carries for 236 yards.

It was a remarkable performance by the University of Arizona- bound running back and defensive back.

Bengals wideout Kevin Cooks put his finger on the win, too. He finished the game with five receptions for 125 yards.

Now, Central East will find out who they will play when the Central Section determines the playoff matchups.

Big rally gives Clovis North the win

JR Cruz provided the big lift Clovis North needed against Clovis East.

He scored on a 31-yard run with about three minutes remaining to help the Broncos to a 27-20 victory.

The Timberwolves had led 20-0 before Clovis North scored 27 unanswered points.

Cruz finished with three rushing touchdowns.
