It is prediction time. The start of high school football season starts Thursday with a few games before the full slate of games Friday. Many teams have aspirations of becoming league and Central Section champions. It would be difficult to predict the section champions since schools could get dropped in each division. Instead, The Bee will once again make week-by-week predictions of the big games in the Fresno area or possibly beyond.

In 2024, The Fresno Bee went 48-10 in the regular season.

Season-opening games are always hard to predict. Nonetheless, here are the ones The Bee is looking at: Bullard at Clovis East: This is The Fresno Bee Game of the Week. New Timberwolves coach George Petrissans said QB Jamie Spurgeon will get the start. Bullard will feature senior QB Tyler Franklin. Should be a decent game. Clovis East 34, Bullard 27

Clovis at Central Valley Christian: How will the Cougars look with University of Miami-bound TE Israel Briggs with QB Deagan Rose? We’ll find out in Visalia where Don Arax returns for his second season with the Cavaliers. Clovis 43, CVC 24

Madera at Sunnyside: A lot of new faces on both sides of the ball. Sunnyside 27, Madera 23

Dinuba at Sanger: It is always tough to play at Tom Flores Stadium with a raucous crowd. The Apaches will be tough to beat there. Sanger 40, Dinuba 27

Corcoran at Roosevelt: The Rough Riders get back RB Ehis Idoni, and that will be a problem for opposing teams. Roosevelt 37, Corcoran 27

Kerman at Torres: Lions QB Adrian Torres is back for his senior season, going up against the Toros, who lost some key players due to graduation. Kerman 32, Torres 20

San Joaquin Memorial at Clovis North: The theme of the predictions is new players. The Broncos don’t have RBs McKay Madsen and Jackson Cinfel, but still bring back some key pieces. Who will lead the Panthers at QB? Madera transfer Wes Linden? Clovis North 20, SJM 14

Hanford West at Fowler: No QB Jerod “Bubba” Smith, who engineered the Redcats offense. He’ll be tough to replace, but should still come out on top. Fowler 24, Hanford West 13
