Clovis North head football coach Mike Jacot steps down, search begins for replacement
Mike Jacot has stepped down as the Clovis North head football coach.
Clovis Unified responded to The Bee and said Jacot “made a decision to leave the coaching position and announced his decision to the school administration this week.”
He notified Clovis North of his resignation on Thursday.
Calls and texts to Jacot for a comment were not returned to The Bee.
A search for the next football coach is underway.
Jacot did a lot for Clovis North since taking over in 2019. In six seasons he went 39-24 with one Tri-River Athletic Conference championship and a Central Section Division I title in 2023 for the first time since 2012, according to section historian Bob Barnett.
Jacot was named The Fresno Bee Coach of the Year for the 2023 season.
“Been doing this a long time now,” Jacot said during an interview for Coach of the Year. “Have been in several different programs where we’ve definitely improved and pushed ourselves. I think we could get to that next step and be a championship program. I haven’t been there yet, so this was the first one to see all the way through.”
After a 24-14 victory over Central in the section championship, Jacot said “I don’t know if I have many words. I’m just proud of our guys. I’m proud of our coaches and our community.”
Jacot came over to Clovis North after he was an assistant at Clovis East for three seasons under then-coach Ryan Reynolds.
Jacot was the Buchanan coach from 2013-2015. His teams improved there going from 1-11 to 7-4 in his final season before resigning.
“You come into a situation with goals and objectives, and I think I’ve met those; I think I’ve been a good soldier,” Jacot told The Bee in 2017. “Buchanan is a great place to coach in a great community and school district as well. But I think it was time – and I know it seems like a short time – that I did what needed to be done and now it’s time for someone else to take the reigns and move forward.”
