McKay Madsen will be soon headed to Brigham Young.

The Clovis North star made his announcement Saturday on national television at the U.S. Navy All-American Bowl in San Antonio.

Madsen, a four-star recruit by 247 Sports, picked BYU of the Big 12 over Oregon and UCLA.

“A few things caught my interest,” Madsen said. “Being able to play for a school of my same faith and to live and practice that daily is an awesome opportunity in itself. I have a lot of family history and connections up there in Provo, too.

“Then my relationship with the coaching staff and love I’ve felt from the program as a whole is really genuine.”

It is a big get for the Cougars, who will wait two years to get Madsen as he completes his two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Madsen, who will play linebacker at BYU, was named the Tri-River Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year after he finished the season with 49 tackles, four interceptions, two pass deflections, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

Madsen was surrounded by family as he made his decision.

Madsen helped the Broncos to a Central Section Division I title a year ago.

He guided the Broncos to an 8-4 overall record and 4-1 in the Tri-River Athletic Conference this past fall.

As a rusher, Madsen ran for 1,238 yards and 19 touchdowns in 2024.
