Central Section football championship could be rainy, plus injury reports and prediction
High school football fans attending Central Section football playoffs, including the Division I-AA championship between Clovis East and Central, should consider bringing an umbrella and wearing a rain jacket.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday from Tim Simons Field at Lamonica Stadium.
The National Weather Service in Hanford said Thursday afternoon that the rain will start coming down in the Fresno area at 4 p.m. Friday and will last to Saturday.
“It’s a good soaker,” Meteorologist David Spector said.
He said the kickoff of the title game should be in the upper 60s with a 40% chance of rain.
Winds will not be a factor which will be at 5 mph.
The system is an atmospheric river that will last through the weekend.
Central coach Kyle Biggs and Clovis East coach Brandon Nagle said they both welcome the rain and that it will be a non-factor despite the possibility for a slippery ball.
Injury report
Central will be without linebacker Marcus Nolen because of an undisclosed injury, Biggs said.
He added that wide receiver Zeb White and linebacker Lonzo Jenkins are game-time decisions.
Nagle said running back Lindsey Graves is questionable because of a collarbone injury he fractured during a game. He has missed the past four games.
Prediction
OK. This game is a coin toss.
Really.
Clovis East is really a great team, while Central has improved following the losses to Clovis North and Clovis East.
Look what happened to the Broncos last week. Their season has ended.
Clovis East has been consistent and taking their foot off the pedal doesn’t seem likely.
The earlier matchup between the teams was close with Clovis East winning 34-26.
Different results this time?
This is hard to predict. It really is. The Bee thinks Central is a lot better than before.
Clovis East is, too.
Prediction: Central 35, Clovis East 34
