High school football: Bullard picks up late TD in win; TRAC title set, plus Top 25 fared
Bullard High had its way against San Joaquin Memorial.
The Bee’s 19th-ranked Panthers then scored the next 14 points to tie the game before the 23th-ranked Knights took matters to its own hands.
Tomas Dixon scored on an 8-yard run later in the fourth quarter to give Bullard its first win over San Joaquin Memorial since 2017 with a 21-14 victory.
“What a roller coaster,” Bullard coach Louis Franklin said. “It’s a bend but don’t break game. All three phases really contributed. I don’t think any phase stood out, but for a young group. I think all units stepped up.”
The win also meant Sanger clinched a tie for the County/Metro Athletic Conference title. The Apaches held off Madera 35-28 at Tom Flores Stadium.
The Knights can a share of the CMAC title if they defeat Edison and Sanger loses to Memorial next week.
Bullard quarterback Tyler Franklin is relieved his team got the job done to give them any hopes of a CMAC title.
“That’s the moment you look forward to,” Franklin said. “That’s the moment you dream about and we were able to capitalize.”
