If anything was proven Friday night between Clovis East and Grant-Sacramento is that the Timberwolves can call themselves one of the top teams in the state.
The Bee’s top-ranked high school football team scored early and often without punting and defeated the Pacers 59-45 at Lamonica Stadium.
“Oh, man, that was a battle,” Clovis East coach Brandon Nagle said. “Great team over there. They have a great offense. Our offense put on a show and I couldn’t be more proud.”
Clovis East had trailed in the game, but that didn’t stop them.
After trailing 21-14 in the second quarter, the Timberwolves answered with a 51-yard pass from Tyus Miller to Harold Duvall.
Clovis East added two more touchdowns before the half, including a kickoff return for a 92-yard touchdown by Donyell Booker.
“Our offense put on a show,” Nagle said. “We kind of challenged them to put on a show this week to put on a show and they did. I can’t believe that score. I’m really proud of the guys who beat a team like that.”
Booker took some time to describe his kickoff return.
“That was crazy,” he said. “I ran and that hole opened up. Great blocking and I just burnt them.”
Clovis East quarterback Tyus Miller threw for 291 yards and four touchdowns. Duvall had 108 receiving yards and two touchdowns and Blake Mathieu had 108 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Clovis East running back Lindsey Graves had 177 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
The Timberwolves have outscored their opponents 194-76.
The potent Clovis East offense has kept defenses on their toes and it showed once again Friday night.
“It’s all contributed to the offensive line,” Miller said. “Our skilled players did their thing and made big plays when they needed to.”
